The Lord does not approve of gambling (Proverbs 16:33)

Cheating at gambling is a sin (Ezekiel 18:8-9)

Gambling is a popular pastime all over the world, but it is also one that can be addictive and lead to ruin. The Bible has a great deal to say about gambling, and while it does not explicitly forbid the practice, it does warn against it.

The key text on gambling is found in Ezekiel 18:8-9. Here, the Lord says: “Hebrews do not rob orphans or widows when they cheat at gambling.” In other words, gambling is a sin because it takes advantage of those who are vulnerable. This principle is echoed in other parts of Scripture; for example, Proverbs 22:22-23 teaches that we should not take advantage of the poor.

Gambling can be addictive because it offers the chance for easy money. However, as Christians we should remember that all good things come from God, and that He is the one who ultimately controls our fortunes. We should also remember that nothing is guaranteed in this life – including winning at gambling. As Proverbs 27:1 says: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”

For these reasons, Christians should avoid gambling whenever possible. If you do choose to gamble, be sure to do so with caution and only as a last resort. Remember that while you may enjoy a short-term winnings from gambling, it can always lead to disaster in the long run.

Don’t gamble with your salvation! (1 Timothy 6:10)

Gambling is a sin. Let’s not kid ourselves; gambling is nothing more than betting on something with the hope of making a profit. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing the stock market, flipping houses, or betting on the Super Bowl, you’re still gambling. And the Bible is clear about gambling: it’s a sin.

Why? Because gambling inherently involves taking risks. We may think that we’re in control, but when it comes to gambling, chance always has the final say. That’s why gamblers are often called “losers.” They may win some money in the short term, but in the long run they always lose.

The Bible says that we should “not put our hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but put our hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” (1 Timothy 6:17). When we gamble, we are putting our hope in uncertain things instead of in God. That’s a sure recipe for disaster.

Gambling also harms relationships. It can lead to arguments and fights between spouses, parents and children, and friends. Why would we want to bring that kind of harm into our lives?

It’s also important to remember that God hates greed (Proverbs 6:16-19). Gambling is motivated by greed; we want to make a quick buck at someone else’s expense. That’s not the kind of heart God wants us to have.

Gambling will lead to destruction (Proverbs 22:16)

The Bible cautions us against gambling, because it is a form of taking risks that will lead to our destruction. In order to be wise, we must heed the wisdom of the Bible and not gamble.

Gambling is a sin because it is a form of greed. We are trying to get something for nothing, and that is not how God designed the world to work. When we gamble, we are hoping to win big, but the odds are always against us.

Gambling also hurts those who can least afford it. Those who are addicted to gambling often lose everything they own. They also put their families at risk, because they may be unable to pay their bills or support their children.

Finally, gambling is a waste of time and money. We could be using that money to invest in something worthwhile or help others in need, but instead we are squandering it on a foolish gamble. Gambling is nothing but a trap that will lead us down the road to ruin.
